“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” – Jeremiah 32:17
Mr Big is one of the largest chocolate bars produced by Cad-bury. When I’m perusing the chocolate aisles I see tons of chocolate bars I could choose from; however, I tend to go for the biggest bar I can find, because I know if I choose the smaller of the bunch, I will go in search of more junk food to curb my chocolate craving.
“God is a big bully sitting on an anthill with a magnifying glass, and I’m the ant. He could fix my life in five minutes if He wanted to, but he’d rather burn off my feelers and watch me squirm.” – Bruce Almighty
Our God is a big God, it’s hard to comprehend. The bible says his nostrils are huge! They must be if they breathed life into man. (Genesis 2:7) There really is nothing too hard for him to accomplish, all we have to do is ask. He could certainly take us out if He wanted to, as Bruce would say, but He is a patient and loving God, and wants to provide all our needs. (Philippians 4:19)
Sometimes when we ask God for things, we ask in a way that sounds like, “God, I need a little bit of a miracle, I’m dying here,” as if God can’t or won’t do it; or we feel we are undeserving, almost like a child afraid to ask for what they really want or need.
God already knows what we want/need before we ask, we don’t have to persuade Him, or do anything to deserve it. We didn’t deserve His love; however, He sent his son to pay a debt He knew we couldn’t pay. (John 3:16)
God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than we can ever ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20) It’s us, who has poverty type of thinking, so we limit God also.
God will never withhold anything good from His children. (Psalm 84:11) We are His, and He loves us. Would you withhold anything from your children?
“You parents–if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?” – Matthew 7:9
When you pray, pray specifically, and pray big! In honor of a big God, we know what He is capable of, and the worse case is that the answer is no. And usually it’s because God has something better, it’s not in his will, or what we ask for is actually not good for us. Ask according to God’s will always.
I woke up this morning and prayed for a woman that I don’t know. She was going for complex brain surgery, and she was told there was a real chance she would not make it out alive. After I was told this I set my alarm, and I lifted her name up to God, at exactly 8:00 am when the surgery started. I prayed over her condition, the surgeons, God’s will. I pray specific because God likes specifics, it shows that you have faith. I then left it in God’s hands, and waited for word. She was only 45 years old, I just couldn’t believe that it was her time. This sinful world can put us through a lot of trouble, but we have a God who is bigger than anything we will ever face. It can seem like a pointless thing to pray, when the stakes are so high, and you are praying to an invisible being. The enemy wants to stop us from praying, because a praying child of God is so powerful. And…. she made it through. Praise the Lord.
A surgeon can only do as much as his gifted hands will allow him; however, God is the greatest physician there is. So ask Big, and expect Miracles in Jesus name.
