Here’s to you Mrs. Robinson

“So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” – John 8:7

And here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson, Jesus loves you more than you will know. God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson. Heaven holds a place for those who pray. (Hey, hey, hey…hey, hey, hey) I had this song in my head for a whole day once, I hadn’t heard it on the radio or anything, it was just there. So I decided to do some research on it.

This song was a re-write for the movie, The Graduate. I have never seen the movie, but from what I know, it’s a story of an affair between an older woman and a younger man. The boy later falls in love with her daughter. It’s a completely crazy situation to think about. How does this kind of thing happen? So wrong….

I started thinking about the woman in the book of John, caught in the act of adultery. It’s tragic, how we can fall into such traps of sin. But we must remember that we are weak in our own flesh, and we are capable of sin. Even the things we think we will never do. Peter sinned against God by denying him, after promising He never would. (Mark 14:66- 72) Jesus died not long after to defeat sin, that we obviously could not defeat on our own.

Does God still love the Mrs. Robinson’s of the world? The answer is yes. Jesus loved us while we were yet sinners. (Romans 5:8) God loves even the murderer…..It’s hard to comprehend. None are without sin; we were born into it. (Romans 3:10) The wages of sin are death, but the gift of Jesus forgiveness is life.

The Gospel message is that Jesus came and died for us, to save us from Sin. He didn’t come to heal the healthy, He came to heal the sick, and save the sinner. (Mark 2:17)

If you have someone in your life that you are praying for and feel like they are a hopeless cause, keep your faith, the battle is God’s and God’s in the business of saving.

We often forget that the church is not a place for perfect people; it is like a big garbage dump really. And Jesus is like the garbage collector. It is a place for the hurting and the lost. While the purpose behind Simon and Garfunkel’s hit, I’m unsure of; I do believe Jesus loves the Mrs. Robinson’s of the world, and we all know one. It is hard to not be biased against sin, but we are all capable, even the most seasoned Christian. And God is no respecter of persons. (Acts 10:34) Be careful not to judge others, as God is the only judge. As Christians we are to pray for people, and lift them up to God, not kick them while they are down.

“Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” – Matthew 7:5

Like the woman caught in the act of adultery; Jesus know’s our heart, what we are going through, and that we all need forgiveness. There is nothing you have gone through that Jesus wasn’t tempted against, He understands… So here’s to you Mrs Robinson.
