“God has two dwellings; one in heaven and the other in a meek and thankful heart.” – Izaak Walton
Thank you Lord for this day, for everything you have already done, and everything you intend to do. Life isn’t always perfect, but there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for. There is always someone that is wishing for what you already have, and take for granted.
God loves a thankful heart. Sometimes expectations in life can lead you away from your blessings, and steal the Joy that God has given you. We at times plead and plead with God for things, and forget to thank Him for what He has already done. When we take our focus off what we need, and start being thankful, a lot of times God has already taken care of everything else. When we start to lift God up and praise Him with thankfulness, He inhabits the praise of his people. (Psalm 22:3)
When you take on an attitude of anything less that gratitude you begin to welcome bitterness and greediness into your life. You will always have the attitude of wanting more, instead of enjoying the moment for what it is. It steals your peace.
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life–whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?” – Matthew 6:25
Make a list of all you are thankful for, and you realize just how blessed you are. I’ve been told by many elderly people I work with, that if they had time back, which is a gift in itself, they would have spent it more wisely with the ones they loved. We have to be careful what we place on our list of importance. Sometimes we need to slow down and know that the Lord has provided all we need. We simply need to rest in Him and enjoy the beauties that already surround us. The Lord is my Shepherd. (Psalm 23)
I am thankful for a place to live, food to eat, my sweet little dog, the beauty of the seasons, and family and friends that love me. I am thankful for the joy of the little simple pleasures of life. Don’t forget about the little simple things, because one day you will realize they were big things.
