He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

“Don’t wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common ocassions and make them great.” – Os Marden

The picture of the little girl, sitting in a field picking daisies apart singing, “He loves me, He loves me not.” I used to enjoy playing this game with my friends. We all had our childhood crushes, or at least the fantasy of what our future boyfriend or husband might be like. It was a harsh reality down the road to realize, that sometimes the answer would be, “He loves me not.” The dating world can be a horrible place. In the movies, you see the man reject the woman, and then either the woman holds her head high and moves on, or you get the hopeless romantic who becomes love crazed, and does whatever she can, even to the point of utter humiliation, to try and get back into the good graces of the man she craves attention.

In God’s eyes, we are loved. There is absolutely nothing we can do, or need to do to earn it. And there is nothing we can do the lose it.

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow–not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” – Romans 8:38

Israel is God’s beloved. We all do things to upset the people we love, including God. Israel consistently rebelled against God; however, God’s love never wavered. Even when they wanted to desert God… (Hosea 11:1)

“Oh, how can I give you up, Israel?
How can I let you go?
How can I destroy you like Admah
or demolish you like Zeboiim?
My heart is torn within me,
and my compassion overflows.” – Hosea 11:8

I can see the heart of God in this verse. I can see Him crying tears for His people. He is torn because of the Sin, but His Love is never a question. So this tells me that there is nothing that can separate me from God’s love. And nothing I can do to earn His grace.

“I am saved by God’s grace alone – period.” – Unknown

Sometimes we come across times in life where we know we have disappointed God in some way or another, or failed. The thing is, when you ask God to forgive you He does . He doesn’t change His mind about you, or take it back, or cancel the plans He has for you. (Jeremiah 29:11) The problem is that while we only see our situation, God sees the beginning to the end.

“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11

If God hasn’t visibly answered your prayer, you haven’t blown it, just know that He’s working on it. The answer will come and it won’t be delayed. No need to stir and wonder, or chant a magical passage while pulling petals off daisies. Just be still and know that He is God, and that He loves you beyond measure. (Psalm 46:10; Ephesians 3:19)

“This vision is for a future time.
It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently,
for it will surely take place.
It will not be delayed.” – Habakkuk 2:3
