“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” – Proverbs 29:18
Abib stands for Early Spring. In the Hebrew lunar calendar, around March or April, was when the Israelites were led out of Egypt into a blooming new land full of milk and honey. (Exodus 13:4-5) It was a good time to travel. Spring is significant of new life, and new beginnings. It gives us something to look forward to when the winter of life becomes treacherous and never ending. We all look forward to ground hog day, hoping for a sign that spring is near. We all need a vision, a hope for a new beginning, or we will perish.
God saves us from the darkness when He gives us spring. The day light is longer, and our moods seem to lift. It’s a great time to plant new seeds of ambition, and shine a light on things in our lives that need to be tossed out, and to plant seeds for things that need to grow. Nothing ever grows if kept in the dark, and lots of times we keep our worse battles hidden and never deal with them, therefore we stop the hand of God from bringing us victory. “Out with the old, and in with the new,” states the adage of old. Shed some light on the dark wilderness God once led you out of, and start looking forward to new hopes and promises.
God’s beloved Israel won a great victory upon their Exodus out of Egypt, and the love of God was marked in history forever, but it certainly wasn’t the last time He did so. We at times are like the Israelite’s. We often forget our victories upon the beginning of any new journey and it’s fall backs that sometimes occur. Let’s trust God to pull us through no matter what, and hold onto the vision He gives us.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1
You must have faith, to see the vision. Joseph’s faith in God went as far as death, as he knew in his heart that one day God would lead the people out of Egypt. In fact he was so sure of his faith/vision that he requested Moses; carry his bones on their way out of exile. (Exodus 13:19). Even in death, we have the victory in Christ! It certainly doesn’t have to take forty years, but it’s never too late to start having faith, and move into the promises of God. If you have a vision, hold onto it! It’s very possible that God is giving you a glimpse of what you can look forward to. Happy Spring!
