humility God Quote

“Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.” – Proverbs 18:12

Pride is focused on self, but humility is focused on God. You cannot do anything effectively for God, when you are focused solely on self. “The Purpose Driven Life,” is a great book. Its first line says, “It’s not about you.”

Anything you do for God will be about helping,”people.” You must love people. That is easier said than done sometimes. We were all placed on this earth with a purpose and a dream. A dream for our lives of course, but our lives are made up of us, and the people around us. When you begin to bless others, you are in turn blessed. (Acts 20:35)

When you do a work for God, you will at times receive encouragement, and other times you may be criticized. There may also be times, when you receive nothing. It’s then that you will really learn the, “why” of “what” you are doing. The things you do in secret will be rewarded in heaven. (Matthew 6:1)

Our human nature is proud and self serving, so the only way to have true humility is to ask God for it. Otherwise all we are displaying is false humility. (Colossians 2:18)

“The greatest among you will be your servant.” – Matthew 23:11

We must learn how to be servant of all. In most careers you have to start small and work your way up. You earn your place. God sometimes works quickly, and other times he makes you go through things, to help you build character. To grow into the person He created you to be. Sometimes the journey is worth so much more than the destination itself. You would never know a victory, without a fight. God says the first will be last, and the last will be first. (Matthew 20:16)

Jesus was the epitome of Humility. He rode a Donkey into Bethphage after walking a considerable distance with his disciples. He was prepared to enter Jerusalem as a King! Riding on a donkey in biblical times symbolized humility and peace. (Matthew 21:1-17)

Jesus was born in a manger. Imagine a king that was born in a barn. Jesus may have been born in a barn, but He was the greatest king that ever lived. He still lives today. Jesus was completely sold out to God; able to be taught; molded into a King. But He was servant of all. He was always about His Fathers work. When we completely surrender ourselves to God, humility follows. We are then available for His best work, his teaching, his molding….the opportunities are endless. Because all things are possible with God. He also cares about our dreams as well, and will use and work all things together. (Romans 8:38) The bible says if we commit our plans to the Lord, we will surely succeed. (Proverbs 16:3)

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time”- 1 Peter 5:6

“Be like the bamboo. The higher you grow, the deeper you bow.” – Chinese Proverb
