The dictionary explains cause and effect this way: Cause and effect is a relationship between events or things, where one is the result of the other or others. This is a combination of action and reaction. Every make a volcano for a science experiment and watch as the baking soda and vinegar explode, or stick something metal in the microwave by mistake? Well, I have and certainly never did it again. I am always so curious about finding out how and why things are the way they are, and how everything works. The moon is pretty cool, it gives us light and is responsible for causing the tides to become high. I could go on talking about the things on the surface like the weather, nuclear war, or global warming. But I’d like to focus on something a little deeper in this message.
When Jesus died for us out of love (cause) sin and death were conquered, and now we have everlasting life and a new unity with God (effect). Everything we do in life has a consequence or a result of some kind good or bad. Every one of us can say that in life we have had good things happen and bad things. Sometimes they are external forces or things that we cannot control, and often it is because of choices we make personally.
A problem arises when we say, “if I could only have this” or, “I’ll do this and then I will be happy.” Or, we blame someone or something else for the way we are and how things turned out. Well, that could very well be the truth, but we don’t need to live there. When we come to Jesus we are a new creation, and so with that comes new life. It’s like being born again and getting a second chance at life. He also promises to restore what we have lost and then some.
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. Joel 2:25
In life we can try many different things/causes to obtain the outcomes/effects we desire; however, sometimes we try so hard to figure things out that we find ourselves in a mess. The world offers so many choices, and programs, and an overload of information which changes like the weather. New age ideas and concepts plague our society, to the point of utter confusion. It is no wonder so many people are lost on what their purpose is and who they are, or the reason God created them in the first place.
Kids in this generation are going to be more confused than ever, some parts of society has decided that Gender identity is a spectrum and not decided by your physical makeup but by how you perceive yourself. I read some articles where there as a list of multiple different genders seven above male and female (Genesis 5:2) and then 58 different identities. And parents are now letting their children decide by the age of 4 if they want to be a girl or a boy.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. 1 Corinthians 14:33
It was only when I came to Jesus and realized who I was as a child of God, and not what the world had made me out to be, that I started to find victories in my life. This world promises nothing and is self-seeking. The only way to find true peace, and find out who you are, is in the one who created us in the first place.
The people and things you associate with in your life, and what you feed your mind daily influences you in every way. There is a spiritual realm and physical one, and they are connected. Anything you do in the physical has an effect in the spirit. Some things may seem harmless and you do them for good causes; or the people you are listening to seem to be true; however, the devil dresses in sheep’s clothing. He wants nothing more that to place confusion in our lives so that we have no idea who we are, and then lead us down a road to destruction.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:15
For example, I’ve been going to physio to try and help fix some issues in my body. I heard from the physiotherapist that yoga was very good for posture and for fixing musculoskeletal problems. It’s also very peaceful and calming to do, I used to take part in it from time to time. I was planning to join a class again, and began searching out studios and pricing etc. Well, my pastor recently brought up about yoga and how Christian’s should stay away from it as it was a practice that was contrary to God.
I went home that evening from church and slept on It as I was baffled by that statement, I never thought of yoga as anything but a simple exercise. It seemed like such a peaceful, relaxing, good for your body type thing. Well, I guess not all that glitters is gold. (Proverbs 13:7-8)
The next morning in my prayers and devotions the Lord spoke to me and said “Cause and Effect.” I had no idea what this was about, but I’ve gotten into the practice of writing these things down and meditating on it throughout the day or later. Then later He brought me to the verse:
I decided to do some research on yoga and found that it was associated with the Hindu religion. This is the exact opposite of Christianity. Hinduism focuses on Karma (CAUSE AND EFFECT) Basically the laws of morality, if you do something wrong it’s going to come back to you as punishment. I hear many Christians walking around using the word KARMA this is completely opposite of God. This means what you do wrong is punishable, and what you do good is rewarded. Completely WORKS based. God forgives us freely through His grace, and His sacrifice for us. They also believe in Samsara (the cycle of rebirth), and the practice of Yoga. Yoga means, “yoked.”
There are seven spiritual laws of yoga, which are meant to help you unite the body, mind and spirit. Jesus wants our heart, soul and mind. So how can we focus that in two places? And hold on, I thought this was just an exercise, my soul is involved?!
Yoga focuses on meditation, breathing, yoga philosophy, sun salutations (worship), and Asana which is a seated position firm and focused. Most will chant OMMMMM as meditation starts. The Word “namaste” is used toward the end, which is a physical and spiritual gesture that recognizes the spirit in another. It means“I bow to the divine in you.” Or, the God within you.” They believe they are all made in one divine consciousness.
I hear a lot of new age things lately that talk about higher levels of consciousness, chakras, things like Reiki – where they believe in spirit guides, and they are using the life energy that flows through everything to promote healing etc. When you open yourself to everything “spiritual” you are opening the door to literally “everything.” There is evil in this world, and the devil is a master in disguise. When dealing with the things in the spirit we must be so careful, and the only one that can help us discern the spiritual world is Jesus.
God is the source of all life, and Jesus is the only one that can heal, and the only one we should wish to be yoked with.
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
Sure, yoga could be innocent I mean it’s just a stretch, but these poses are also ancient forms of worship to things that are not of God. When we take part in a class like that and go through the motions we are yoking ourselves and stepping into unguarded spiritual territory. Some Christians say, well I worship Jesus throughout. But, that’s like saying you are going to go read your bible in a bar, as long as you are doing it in Jesus name it’s fine.
It doesn’t work that way. For example, If you are hanging out with a gang and one of the guys kills someone, and you get hauled off to jail, more than likely you are going to be guilty by association even though you were innocent of any wrong doing. Those gang members may eventually have an effect on you and before you know it you’re doing the same thing.
A young person can say that they will be responsible, and they are strong enough to handle themselves at parties, but I am the first to tell you from experience, if you give the devil an inch, he’ll take you a mile. Before you know it, you have lost out with God.
We must abstain from idol worship and all appearances of evil. When involving ourselves in the things of the world we must first test the spirit. Meaning pray about it and ask God for revelation. If it feels wrong, it probably is wrong.
Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. 1 Thessalonians 2:21-22
I immediately cast the thought of joining a yoga class out of my head and repented, never to think of it again. As Christians we should never be yoked with any other God, or at least when we do something, it should be for the glory of God. Anything that does not glorify God or displeases Him, it would be best to bow out.
Yoga seemed like a good cause at first, but the effect is spiritual entanglement. This might seem a little over the top to some people, but shouldn’t we be extra careful in what we allow? Shouldn’t we be fully educated on what we are taking part in, before we do it? This is just my opinion, but I for one think we should refrain from trying to take other practices like Hinduism and try to put a Christian spin on it.
We can become spiritually entangled so easily without realizing it. The enemy is very good at trickery, so we must be on guard always, in prayer, reading the word, and letting the holy spirit guide us and help us discern. Not everything “spiritual” is good. Some people say, “I’m not religious, I am spiritual.” Well there are good spirits and bad spirits, so which side are you on? It’s like white lies and black lies, or white magic and black magic. What we watch, the music we listen to, the people we associate with, the things we allow have a tremendous effect on us and our walk with the one true God.
If we have a relationship with Jesus Christ and are being led by the spirit of God, we never have to worry about being led astray. The seasons change, as the world turns, but God will never change.
The most important cause and the one reason we exist is Love. When we accept the love of God, the effect is everlasting happiness with Him in eternity. God’s challenge is for us to show that same love to others. So I challenge you to show someone an act of kindness this week, even if you don’t feel like it, or pick someone you don’t normally get along with, you will be surprised how one small act of kindness can change someones attitude, and then that same kindness will hopefully turn into a domino effect. Our actions can have such a profound effect on those around us, and God will bless you in return for it. As the word says it is more of a blessing to be able to give than receive.
I have showed you all things, how that so laboring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35
