According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 1 Corinthians 3:10
The Church (the body of Christ) is God’s design. Paul was used by God as an architect to establish the foundation of the church; a foundation that cannot be changed by man (1 Corinthians 3:11). Paul worked to plant the seed for the church, Apollos oversaw watering the seed, but God was the one who gave the increase. (1 Corinthians 3:6) God created the body and gave us instructions on how to care for it so that it continues to function and grow in unity. A farmer can plant a seed and water it, but without God; the creator and giver of life, it will not grow. We cannot take God out of the equation or take credit for the fruit we produce. That farmer must also have some knowledge in how to produce fruit; knowledge given by God, or his work will be in vain and He will fall short. (Hosea 4:6)
God has called us forward at this time because the harvest is great, but the workers are few. (Luke 10:2) God has also given us a warning. (1 Corinthians 3:6-16) If we build with the wrong materials (faulty doctrine, wrong intentions) the building will be destroyed. If we build with the right materials (infallible word of God) and a right heart toward God and man (Matthew 22:37-39) working as ONE for the same goal, God will give the increase, and reward each one.
Each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 1 Corinthians 3:13
