Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Corinthians 4:1
Rest assured that when you do a work for the Lord adversity will come. It is easy to buckle under the pressures of life, and enemy schemes. You will want to quit many times, and may fall, but we are commanded not to lose heart. If you fall, get back up (Proverbs 24:16). What has God asked of you? Jesus had a task to do also – save the world! That is one big request! But nothing is too big for God to overcome. He overcame death! He took on every sin, emotion, sickness, or calamity we would ever face, put it to death, and then buried it for eternity. He felt pressure to the point where He asked God to take His cup of suffering from Him. Jesus ultimately surrendered to God’s will, and His courageous sacrifice is still having an effect today (Luke 22:42). He knew that a moment of weakness and hardship in the flesh was nothing compared to the joy of an eternity with us in heaven. Our present sufferings do not compare to the amazing things that the Lord has prepared for us in eternity (Romans 8:18, 2 Corinthians 4:17). When we identify with Christ death, burial, and resurrection we are crucified with Christ in our flesh, but we are made alive by His spirit and have access to resurrection power! (Philippians 3:10, 1 Peter 3:18; Galatians 2:20). If we believe that He died, buried our sins, and rose up again defeating the grave, we know that we have a certain hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). That is the gospel of Jesus Christ, the ministry we have been given by the mercy and grace of God (Matthew 28:19; John 3:16).
It is a privilege to do a work for God not a right. There is a cost when you give yourself over to the work of the Lord (Luke 14:25-35). To whom much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48). If you feel unworthy of the call, remember this: We are not called because WE are worthy of the call, we are called because HE is worthy! Guard your hearts and remember the joy of your salvation! (Psalm 51:12, Proverbs 4:23) Do not lose heart!
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
