And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in. Genesis 7:16
In hard times like this it is hard to believe that God has a plan, but He does! (Jeremiah 29:11). When Noah was told to build the ark, He was given specific instructions (Genesis 6:14). The pitch used on the ark, was the same substance used to make baby Moses’ basket waterproof, when he was sent down the river to avoid execution (Exodus 2). God saw the future for Moses, and He did what was necessary to protect him. But this required obedience on all ends for the plan to be carried out properly. It required trust in God, and choosing faith over fear, no matter how the circumstances looked. God even gave instructions on how to isolate for disease in biblical times (Numbers 12:15, Leviticus 15). The Israelite’s spent 40 years wandering in the desert (Numbers 13-14) but they learned that obedience is what is necessary for provision and protection. Don’t forget, God was still with them in the desert! Sometimes we need the desert experience to find God. Moses would go through the desert and the waters til He found faith in God (Exodus 3). Outside of God there is no security, just what the world offers, which we are seeing more and more is a faulty system. God doesn’t tell you to self-isolate and leave you there. He wants to tell His people in this moment, “I am with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Matthew 28:20, Hebrews 13:5). There may be social distancing going on in the world right now, but there is no social distancing with God. A good captain never leaves the ship, or His people, but the ship will never go down, for He is the master of the wind and the waves (Luke 8:24).
The world in Noah’s time never thought it would ever rain, so they lived carelessly, not heeding the words that were given to them. I’m sure Noah looked ridiculous building a gigantic boat for a storm that people thought would never come. Noah heard the word of the lord, and took heed then the rain came (Ezekiel 33:4, Proverbs 16:20) . We are so distracted today that we fail to heed God’s warnings. He is speaking loudly, but we are not listening. A divine shutdown is occurring in the world right now, and I believe God is allowing it to gain the attention of His people and show us that He alone is our deliverer; that He is in control, and that we need a savior. Noah’s ark was a “voyage of faith”. We are on that same voyage, and God has a salvation plan for His people. God is calling His people to get on board, and then stay in the ship! (Acts 27:31). Today it isn’t a physical ship that we find refuge in, or a church with four walls, but a secret place in God (Psalm 91:1). Church is important, and we are called to gather (Hebrews 10:25) but we have forgotten how to be the church inside and outside the church. We have lost unity with each other, and oneness with God. We have forgotten the simpler things of life that we take for granted. God sometimes must take everything apart, and start over again, to show us a better way.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1
God’s promises are still in effect, the rainbow is a sign of that very promise (Genesis 9:13). We are not in an “apocalypse” but we are in the last days. It is not God’s will that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9) but we have a choice to make. Will you be like the people outside of the ship in Noah’s day? Led astray by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14) like the news and media, or will you heed the voice of the Lord (Exodus 15:26). We do not know the time nor the hour of the end, so we must prepare now and build for the future like Noah did (Matthew 24:36). There were 8 families saved on that boat in Noah’s day, to start over fresh. Churches may seem empty right now, but the body of Christ must stick together however possible, even from a distance. Division is occurring in churches today also which is WRONG. There are six things God “hates”, and the number one thing is men who sow discord among the brethren. Any man who creates division among the people of God is an abomination to God (Proverbs 6:16-19). We need to stick together now more than ever, as our salvation is nearer than we once believed (Romans 13:11). I don’t know what those 8 families did during their time of isolation on the ark; I’m sure they had moments of fear and doubt, but through it all they saw a God who loved His people and He followed through on His promises.
Our God is a God who longs for communion with his people; His Beloved creation. Love is the reason for it all. What would you do for love? God would go to the ends of the earth for you, even die for YOU (John 3:16). Salvation is here for all who call upon the name of the Lord and put their trust in HIM and HIM alone. It is time now to build for the kingdom of God, and all who will be saved. It’s time to shut ourselves in with God, and there is no other place I would rather be.
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Isaiah 25:9
“If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” Exodus 15:26
