    When life throws you lemons

“And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.” Genesis 1:29 (NKJV) There is that old saying that when life throws you lemons you can either duck or make lemonade. So to make the lemonade, you simply have to squeeze the lemon juice, add water, sugar (optional), and of course filter out the seeds.  What then do you do with the seeds? Throw them out of course. I cut open a lemon the other day to put in hot water and was annoyed that I had to…

    Humility before honor

“Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.” Proverbs 18:12 I have heard the saying, “death before dishonor,” on many an occasion. Usually while watching war movies. I often wonder – what does that really mean? Does it mean that one would fight to the point of death before bringing shame to one’s country? Or does it mean that you would rather die than face losing? To fight for one’s country is probably one of the greatest forms of humility. Jesus himself died to save us, even though we did nothing to earn it. In return, we were given a promise that we would never…

    Sphere of Influence

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 (NIV) Everywhere we go, we have a ‘Sphere of Influence.’ Wherever you are right now, look around you. A simple smile, kind gesture, motivational word, or the opposite has the power to influence someones mood, outlook, and motivation in how they approach their day, or those around them. A lot of what we value is learned by society, unless we have been transformed by the power of new thinking. The thinking that comes…

    He is Risen!

“It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:44-46 A darkness may have come over the land at one time, and may still seem that way at times, but be assured that He has risen! He is still alive and powerful today! No matter what storm you face, Jesus is there in the midst, shining a light ready to help you fight…

    Windows of Opportunity

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 There comes a time in our lives when we are faced with windows of opportunity. Usually they appear during a time of crisis, or a moment of decision. There are also windows of testing, and windows of blessing. When Noah was asked to build the ark, it was his window of opportunity.…

    Life Support

“So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.” Romans 12:5 (KJV) Today after church a man we all held dear was in a car accident with his wife and friend. This friend had decided to come back to church with him, a week after he was saved. At the age of 76 he gave his heart to God. Before church was out the pastor had us pray with his new friend, almost with a sense of urgency. I figured as a new christian of course that would make sense. Little did we know what was about to occur. I got a text…

    Smoke and Mirrors

And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Romans 13:11 I used to play baseball as a child, and I had the tendency to get easily distracted during a game. Nevertheless, I had a place on the team and a task to carry out. God has put us into specific positions in the body of Christ for such a time as this. If we allow ourselves to get distracted, we risk not completing our task, and we hold everyone else up in the process. I you are on third…

Unshaken “Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.” – Psalm 91:6 I hate to sleep in a room that is too warm.  I decided to open my window one night to let some fresh air in.  My dog likes to sleep right…

    This Old House

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” – 2 Corinthians 5:1 (NIV) I got married in August of last year and moved to a house about a half hour away from where I lived. It was not my first choice, since it was so far out, but also because I knew this house was old and needed a lot work. I judged it because of its imperfections much like a person looks in the mirror and judges their flaws. It wasn’t until I dared to stop looking and dwelling on…

    Broken Records

Ever notice how some people feel the need to blast the music they are listening to.  I drove by someone who was blaring their music so loud… I cant ever understand it.  Can u not hear it good enough for yourself?  Or is the message behind the song so urgent that you need to force it on the rest of us? The bible says to travail and pray without ceasing.  (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) But be assured that God is not deaf to your cries.  He knows our hearts cry before we utter a single word.  I often hear from my fiance, i’m not a mind reader! As in, “Be specific.”…
